2018 IBC Performing Commercial Building Inspections

The Commercial Building Inspector Institute is designed to assist you with becoming an effective commercial building inspector. This course will help you with the ins and outs of applying the code in the field during an inspection. The institute will cover in detail the topics that are included on the B2 commercial building inspector certification exam and reference the same references that are used in the B2 exam with an emphasis on the code and determining compliance in the field. The topics that will be covered: general administration; building planning; footings and foundation; floor construction; wall construction and coverings; roof/ceiling construction and public safety and special construction of the commercial building inspector certification exam. Goal: The goal of this training is to prepare you to apply code provisions during a commercial building inspection.

The following publication is recommended to ensure success in the course:

  • 2018 International Building Code® (IBC®)
  • Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary (ACI 318-14, ACI 318-11, or ACI 318-08) OR ICC Concrete Manual® ( 2012, or 2015 or 2018 edition)

Upon completion, participants will better able to:

  • Prepare for an inspection.
  • Communicate code requirements as it relates to commercial building inspections.
  • Explain the role of building materials and where to locate that information in the IBC.
  • Identify the fire safety aspects of a commercial building inspection.
  • Explain the means of egress requirements as they relate to commercial building inspections.
  • Communicate scoping requirements for accessible design for buildings, structures and the site on which they are located.
  • Describe the following topic as they pertains to performing a commercial building inspection: general administration, building planning, footings and foundations, floor construction, wall construction and, roof/ceiling, public safety and special construction

➢ Continuing Education Credit: Participants can earn a total of 12 CEUs for attending both sessions. Individual course attendance will provide for 6 CEU’s per session. This is equal to a total of 12 Professional Development Hours (PDH), or 12 Learning Units (LU) upon completion of both sessions.

Fees: Include instruction, course materials, and break refreshments in morning and afternoon. Lunch is not included. Preregistered participants will receive course materials at the seminars. Course materials for participants that do not preregister will be distributed on a first come first served basis. The fee is $150 for current Chapter members and $200 for non-Chapter members.
